The long-known fact is that you can learn to photograph and impress your audience even if you have equipment that is almost worthless, while on the other hand the most advanced equipment in the hands of someone who doesn't know won't make great pictures, but the picture will be even worse than if you took them with a pocket camera.

It's often amazing how the simplest advices that can be learned about lighting, object positioning, backlight, time of day in which the photographs are looking best, aperture and some other, the vast majority of people don't know, although it would take them about ten minutes to learn them - as result their photos would be improved, literally immediately.
In this sense publication of this nicely designed, informative and handy booklet that can be read once and then always carry with you to be reminded is great.
The author on one place gathered the most important information that will help you making better photographs and learn to make better use of equipment that is at your disposal.

He will advise you about choosing correct equipment and adequate accessories such as lens and tripods, introduce to the terms of exposure, ISO and depth of field, teach you how to avoid blur and choose right file format for you, how to position your objects following the rule of thirds.
What I especially liked about this book was author's emphasis that good photographers are becoming good due to constant practice.

And for all these reasons, especially if you don't already have one of similar books, "Lonely Planet's Best Ever Photography Tips" can be fully recommended - at one place, on its just over 150 pages it provides an overview of the most important photo tips that will help you instantly improve your photographic skills.

Of course, don't expect to immediately become a pro, but for that you don't need great equipment, but lots and lots of practice.

2) So useful - This is an extremely hands-on little book that I am so glad I got. Here is why, in no particular order:

- Small format makes taking it along on a trip quite easy.

- The design is adorable - this might be minor to many but I love the retro look. Kudos to the book designer - great work.

- The tips are ideal for people who do not want to take a photography class or read lengthy books. The author gives real-world, scene-specific advice, right down to recommendations for shutter speed and aperture settings to successfully photograph tricky scenes such as waterfalls, reflections and sunsets, just to name a few. Other photography books just give the vague advice to overexpose or underexpose, use a wide aperture or a fast speed. I'Anson gives actual numbers. This is very useful for both beginners and intermediate photographers as it takes much of the guesswork out of photographing. I have been taking pictures for decades but up to this point good shots were often accidental because I was never quite sure about, let's say, which exposure times or shutter speeds to set for specific motives.

- In addition, I'Anson gives tips on equipment, which lenses are best used for which occasion, when to shoot what (For example: Shoot waterfalls on overcast days to avoid too much reflection from wet rocks), etc. Lastly, he also offers advice on backup solutions and even includes a tip or two for using cell phone cameras.

In short, this is one of the most useful photography books I have ever seen. Sure, it's not rocket science, and at some point we could all figure these tips out for ourselves. That is: After much trial and error, and reading, and frustration. I doubt that short of a professional photographer many people would immediately know what to do in all of these situations without first re-familiarizing themselves with the basics. I'Anson does a great job writing in easy-to-understand language and he is to the point. What more could one possibly want. For me, this book is worth every penny of its more than moderate price.

My advice: Get it.

1) Wonderful, comprehensive book on all aspects of photography. - "Photography" is a wonderful, comprehensive reference for photographers at all levels. Learning about photographic techniques can sometimes be tedious and hard to understand. Bruce makes it about as easy as it can be. This book is very well organized and laid out. One of the things that makes it so nice is the clear photographs that serve as examples. Sometimes it is hard to detect the subtle differences in photographs. The photographs in this book help the reader see these differences (for example, the difference between warm and cold tone papers).

2) Good only for the most beginner beginners - This book is 30 pages of large font written like a friend advising you in a Facebook post. Very good for someone who has never held a camera to skim through, but the typos and sometimes rambling, friendly tone detracted from the professionalism this author could have garnered from me, though she is clearly an experienced photographer and kudos to her for writing s book! Here's what I'd say --- if you just got a hand-me-down camera and have never read anything or spoken to anyone about how to take a good picture, this could be a good non-intimidating read. But if you just did some research and purchased a camera, or even know what a DSLR is, and if you have heard of the rule of thirds, then this is not a book for you.

1) Great set of books to help you with your photography - I am very impressed with the style of writing and amount of information included in this 3 volume set. A special note: BE SURE TO SCROLL TO THE END OF EACH BOOK TO GET THE LINK TO THE PDF VERSION! This will have the full resolution photos that you will need to see in larger format. Kindle only provides thumbnail sized photos in the Kindle version. These are impossible to see any detail.

I first read volume 1 when it first came out and found it to be very helpful to the beginning or intermediate photography. It will help you with all the basics from types of cameras and lenses, composition, camera settings, and how to find your photographic style or voice. There are helpful hints and tips that I found very useful. At the end of volume 1 there are some assignments designed to get you out and practice what you learn.

Volume Two continues with more information designed to help you become a better photographer. There is a section for tripods, cable releases, filters and metering systems. Most of this book is devoted to helping you with using light to enhance your photos and helping you with creative ideas. This book really helps you to hone your own style while trying a variety of techniques. Each of the techniques comes with an assignment to get you to practice what you are learning.

Volume Three is all about travel and photography. There are so many helpful hints, tips and suggestions for gear and apps and companies scattered throughout this book. This is worth your while to devour this book to find out from the author (who has traveled far and wide for many years) his experiences and suggestions. This book covers travel insurance, equipment insurance, booking flights, what gear to take, what camera settings to use for various situations, and tips for air travel. Once you have embarked on your trip, the author gives you suggestions for various focal lengths, lenses, and lighting situations. Finally he talks about learning about the people and cultures of the places you visit and how to get to know the people better and keep them happy (when some don't want you to take their photo) and how to weave your photos into a story. There is a bonus section at the end of V3 that goes into specific details about two locations, Iceland and Tanzania. If these are on your bucket list, be sure to check out these sections. The author has vast experience with these locations and can help guide you to the best places to take your photos.

The author's style of writing is very conversational and easy to read. These volumes are great to keep handy and ready again from time to time. Use them as a reference set. They can inspire you to try new things and to develop your craft in photography. We all need a 'jump start' from time to time and these books can do just that. I highly recommend this 3 volume set of photography books. They cover so many aspects of photography that you can benefit greatly from the author's advice and knowledge.

2) Great resource for amateur or professional - As a professional photographer I found David's teaching very sound and yet easy enough for a new photographer to grasp. I especially liked the book about Travel, since I have not been to many of the places that David described.

His first hand experiences in Iceland, with places to photograph and especially what time of day is best will make a great reference book for when I go there. This wasn't even on my radar as a place I wanted to photograph before I read this book. Now, it is definitely on my priority list.

I am familiar, as are most photographers, with the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, from Wild Kingdom and other TV documentaries. But, I didn't know that the migration is continuous and the animals never leave the crater!

As mentioned in a previous review, having all this available on my Kindle makes this easy to keep with you if you need to refresh your memory on the details.

2) Excellent Book! - Loved this book!
