1) which can be very happy. *LOVE* the semi-flip screen - I buy a Lumix camera every year and a half and now own 5 or 6 of them. I buy them for their improvements, although usually there are newer models. Each one I have purchased, however, has been an improvement over the last. This camera also makes my third 20x zoom, but this one goes up to 45X (I believe) optical, which can be very happy.
*LOVE* the semi-flip screen. It allows you to tip the camera while you maintain the view in the screen. We used it immediately out-of-the-box for pictures related to "how stuff works" for my website and have continued to use it for unexpected shots.
I have not been able to make the selfie feature which is supposed to activate at a wink work. This is a feature I really don't need, but what the heck, it is there, so I tried it. What does work when taking a selfie is the shutter. It delays for 3 seconds, then snaps the picture. I believe that the picture has a skin softening feature ... at least my face in uneven light looked pretty good as there were no harsh shadows where I didn't want harsh shadows to be.
We have not yet used its WiFi feature and am not sure why we would. I'll fool around with it in the next few days. I believe it allows you to geo tag shots (we own an earlier version of this camera that contained geo tagging internally - that camera is currently slated for a lense clean). Geo tagging is just great, but we can live without it. I also understand WiFi enables file transfer to your phone. That might be handy for people who regularly use their phone to show photos. It is not necessary for us and usually we simply use the SIM card for file transfer.

2) A travel camera - The camera powers up and zooms quickly. My LX7 feels like a turtle compared to the ZS45. The Wifi remote using a smartphone, while limited in functionality, is usable.
There were a few things not obvious from the published specs. The resolutions and the aspect ratios cannot be selected at will. You have to choose from the list of fixed combinations. This camera is charged by USB, but, why, why, why a proprietary connector slightly smaller than the standard micro USB? When the battery is empty, it draws 0.6A from the USB charger. The wink detector for the self timer is temperamental. It jumps around trying to decide whose face to look at.
